It's not often I get to go out but I feel like I tried to get out a lot more in August than I have in a long time. I also meant I was getting dressed up at least once a week and struggling to put outfits together using items from my post-babies wardrobe.
I do not profess to be trendy, in fact, I believe I'm quite the opposite but, I would love to put more thought and effort into my clothes and so I thought that the perfect place to start is to document it when I do put something together that I love and feel comfortable in!
I also came to this idea well after I had worn each outfit... So the photos and videos here are a replica of each nights OOTD and doesn't match exactly what my hair and makeup was like on the day. I promise to get better at this both for future posts and for myself too!
So let's get stuck in and show you some outfit inspiration...
Entertainment Night Outfit Inspiration
First up is a simple outfit I wore when we were in Lossiemouth during our caravan tour. We took the kids to the entertainment one evening and we played some bingo, won a 90's music quiz and had a great laugh!
Believe it or not the dress is from Poundland for £12. Yes you heard that right! Our local store had a revamp and they added a wee clothes section and I found this bargain tucked away. It's this pale sage green colour that I love and the fit is so lovely. The belt cinched in my small waist but nature of the fabric meant it didn't cling to my mum-tum. Ideal for me!
Green dress - Poundland £12 - You can't buy online but have a look in store.
Chunky white trainers - New Look £27.99 - The ones I wore are absolutely ancient and frankly past their best but here is a link to their current version.
I am NOT a frilly gal, especially frilly dresses, but I gave it a shot and I think it looks really good and it was so comfortable. The sleeves were long enough to cover the part of my arms I'm most self-conscious about and widened my shoulders slightly to balance my wide hips.
I opted for a simple white chunky trainer with this dress, a must-have when running around after small children all night. Not to mention the running I did when launching myself at the microphone to answer the 90's music quiz first 😆
Ultimate Pop Concert Outfit Inspiration
Next up I was heading to a little pop concert mainly aimed at kids with tribute acts for Little Mix, Rihanna and Dua Lipa. I knew it might get warm in the venue so I decided on my favourite skirt of all time paired with a tee to keep it casual.
This skirt is from Shein and fits like a glove, the split isn't too high so I don't have to constant pulling it around like most other skirts I own. I love the pop of green in with the leopard design and the length is flattering on my short arse.
The tee I got from New look a while ago but any graphic band-style tee would work also. I find I like the grey version with this outfit and sometime I also roll up the sleeves to create a different silhouette or to edge up the outfit a bit more. One thing I will say about this specific tee is that every time I wash it it gets a little more distressed, which I guess is in keeping with its style but not exactly what I wan't from an item of clothing haha!
Leopard Skirt from Shein - £7.49
Tee from New Look - £7 (now sold out)
I also wore this outfit with the same trainers as above☝🏼
Date Night Outfit Inspiration
For the first time in so so long me and Ian managed to get out for a date night. We kindly received a voucher for Miller & Carter and had been wanting to try it for the longest time and we finally did! Momentous occasion! No longer Mama and Daddy we headed out for a few drinks and even had a dance after.
I went for a wardrobe staple of mine - Leather Trousers. I don't know what it says about me that I constantly reach for leather 😂 If it's not my leather jacket then chances are it's leather jeans!
I recently ordered a shirt from Temu that I thought would pull in my waist but hide my mum-tum and I have to say I was thrilled I was right. Not always the case with online shopping, amiright?! Funny story about this shirt - I bought it in Khaki and a few weeks later I went to a local church fundraiser and they had some clothes for sale and they had the burgundy one I wore here on sale for next to nothing and in my exact size. I had to snap it up!
I guess you could wear a wide waist belt with this style but I didn't and left it draped down as the way it is stitched is quite nice.
Burgundy/Khaki Shirt from Temu - £12.97
Leather Trousers from Amazon - £29.90
White Boots from River Island - £48 down to £26.50 sold out. Alternative here
Purse from Temu - £11.69
Gamer Day Outfit Inspiration
Last but not least I went out with my eldest son and took him gaming and for dinner. I knew we were going to be doing VR so I knew I needed to be comfy and secure as the risk of falling on my behind was very high 😂
I decided to go for a basic outfit that pretty much everyone has in their wardrobe, jeans, a top and a blazer. I really love a white tee with jeans and as its summer and we were taking the car most places I thought I'd get away with light jeans once more before the rainy months set in. The jeans I chose are great because it's not often I find ones that graze my ankles as I'm so short and I love the added detail of the zip and slight rips too. (Anything bigger and I would have Hulk ripped my way out of them playing VR!😂)
There isn't much to say about the basic tee but I dressed it up slightly with the blazer. I went with my nude but because this outfit is so generic you can get away with almost any colour blazer you want. I usually would have gone for a patterned blazer with this but alas, my weight gain prevents me and I wanted to be comfortable. The t-shirt and jeans were quite fitted so I liked the more loose fit of this blazer and the runched sleeves are a personal favourite of mine.
Light Jeans from F+F - Mine were ancient but here is a £28 alternative.
White Tee from Next - £6
White Trainers from New Look - £22.99
Nude Blazer from Shein - £20.99
Accessories
To be honest I don't have a lot of jewellery at the moment so you'll see I use the same accessories are used multiple times (and very often) to dress up an outfit. Most of the things I wear I can't even remember where I got them, so I will link some similar alternatives below.
Finger rings from Shein - £2
Large chain necklace from Etsy - £8.99
Chain link cuff from New Look - £5.99
Smaller chain necklace from New Look - £7.99
Dainty bracelets from Joma jewellry - £17.99
Eyeshadow Palette by Jaclyn x Morphe - £27.30
Double Wear Foundation by Estee Lauder - £39.50
